With a history of working in the community fighting against HIV/AIDS and its intolerances as well as educating the community about the disease and its preventions, Building Futures and the Women’s Collective are the 2009 2009 One Day One Ride One Cause Charity Bike Ride beneficiaries. Join us in supporting these dedicated HIV/AIDS service organizations to continue their work and commitment, until there is a cure.

Building Futures

Building Futures’ mission is to increase access to safe, affordable quality housing for families, children and individuals living with HIV/AIDS in Washington, DC. This provides a foundation for building dignified, stable, and healthy lives and futures.

Building Futures delivers comprehensive housing and case management services that will allow families living with HIV/AIDS to stay together as a family unit and individuals to live in safe and affordable housing. Proceeds from the One Day ride will support Building Futures’ newest project, a 30-unit property in the heart of the thriving Columbia Heights neighborhood.

The mission of The Women’s Collective (TWC) is to meet the self-defined needs of women, girls and their families living with or at-risk for HIV/AIDS, reducing barriers to care and strengthening their network of support and services. As a Washington DC-based nonprofit organization led by women with HIV and their allies/advocates, TWC works to fulfill its mission by:

  • Providing services that are peer-led, woman- and girl-focused, family-centered, and culturally appropriate.

  • Providing a safe, non-judgmental environment for all women, girls and families.

  • Providing a voice for women, girls and their families who are living with or at-risk for HIV/AIDS through advocacy at the local, national, and international levels.

  • Creating partnerships among service providers, governmental, non-governmental and private entities.

TWC grows out of the life experience of its Founder/Executive Director, Patricia Nalls, a woman living with HIV/AIDS, who used her personal lessons learned to create this unique organization.

Brother to Brother Sister to Sister United, Inc. (BBSSU)

BBSSU, a nonprofit cycling club and One Day event organizer, founded by AIDS activist Wallace Corbett in 1996 , BBSSU members and friends have raised over $1,000,000 for HIV/AIDS service organizations that provide assistance and education about the disease within the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
